Though travelling by train is a time-consuming matter but it is also very enjoyable. Train journey has its own fascination. It may freshen up your mood swings. Chating with new people on the train, a lot of hawkers with their yummy food items expose us to a wonderful experience.  But when it comes to travelling by train with toodles, especially for those who love running around is definitely a tough task. Then it becomes painful for us. Then we want to cancel the trip anyhow.

But sometimes we can't avoid travelling long distances with our baby by train or other public transport. Though journey by train is more comfortable than journey by other transports like Bus, Trum etc. sometimes it's quite daunting. You should make a proper plan for making a hassle-free trip. So, don't be panicked. Here are some tips which can make your journey struggle free. 

You should avoid long journeys:

You should avoid a long route if you are travelling with your baby by train. Toddlers are generally restless they don't like to sit down in a particular place for a long time. Thus it will be difficult for you to control your baby in train. So you can avoid a long tour with your baby if it is not necessary.

If you are travelling a long distance by train with your baby then it is not recommended not to travel alone. You should travel with another adult person it may be your partner or your guardian or someone else as they can handle your baby in your emergency situation. Travelling a long distance along with your baby is also not safe. 

Try to engage your baby:

Toddlers love to run around, it is a normal characteristic of the child. You can't stop him forcefully but you can stop him smartly by engaging him in particular works. There are several options to engage him in that work like reading a book, solving a puzzle, compleating a task etc. You can offer him chocolate or Brownies as a prize for participating in those activities. Then he will feel interested to do his next activity.

Book train according to the sleeping time of your baby:

If you book tickets according to the sleeping time of your baby then it will be easy to handle him. Don't try to change his sleeping schedule it's become very cranky for your baby. Yes, it is absolutely impossible to keep his schedule intact on the train at home but you should try to feel your baby comfortable on the train also.

Try to carry all the essential things for your baby:-

It is very important to carry all the essential things that your baby needs on a daily basis like a feeding bottle, a lot of diapers, 5 to 6 sets of dress, ORS, water, powder milk, spoon, small bowl, baby foods, Thermoflask etc.  You can carry warm cloth also if you are travelling on an air-conditioned train or you are travelling in a cold place. 

Keep the fast-aid box to you:

It is recommended to carry a fast-aid box when you are travelling. It is also recommended to carry some basic tablets like metrogyl or norflox-TZ for loose motion, paracetamol or Calpol for fever, saridon for headache, Unienzyme or ENO for acidity etc. Keep some packets of ORS powder or electric powder for precautions especially if you are travelling in the summer season. 

Keep a good amount of dry foods:-

You should keep dry foods in enough amount when you are travelling a long distance by train. Yes, there are available a variety of foods in the station but you should not consume them routinely. As those are a little bit spicy. So it is recommended to keep some dry foods and carry some homemade cooked food like bread, paratha, semolina, poha, chilla, chutney, different kinds of laddu etc. You can carry some fresh fruits like apple, guava, and orange which are not destroyed easily.  You should sincerely carry different types of baby foods. 

Entertaining your baby:- 

You should try to entertain your baby. For this, you can carry his favourite toys, colourful books etc. Sometimes you can play music and try to make him funny. Showing some funny facial expressions can make him happy. You can show him some cartoons on your mobile phone or you can show him the scenery of beautiful nature outside the window.

 Book lower berth:- 

If you are travelling with your baby then it is advised that try to book a lower berth seat of the train for safety purposes. The middle or upper berth is a little bit risky for toddlers.

Though in nowadays Indian Railway introduced a special "baby berth seat" attached to the lower berth and foldable for hassle-free journey of passengers with toodles. 

Some remarkable hacks to make your journey joyful:-

  1. Don't travel long distances with your baby if his age is below 6 months. 
  2. You should care what you are eating or drinking. There are different types of yummy foods available at stations but these may be processed in an unhygienic way.  So carrying your food will be the better choice.
  3. Try to journey in such a train which has a direct route from your place to your destination.
  4. Make a bag especially for your baby as you can find any necessary thing quickly. 
  5. You can check the status of the train with your mobile.
  6. Avoid local train on long route journey. 
  7. You should avoid break journeys especially when you are travelling with your baby. 

Lastly, You can carry your toddler on the Indian railway free of cost. The children below the age of 5 require no ticket fare and the children below 12 years require half ticket fare according to Indian Railway rules.
